At Coombabah State School we use the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) to effectively guide, plan, teach, assess and report on students learning and achievement. We implement the Australian Curriculum in Prep to Year 6 across all 8 areas of learning;

- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Technologies (Digital and Design)
- The Arts (Music, Media, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts)
- Health and Physical Education
- Languages- Japanese (Years 5 and 6 only)
Extended features of our curriculum include:
- Catering for children's needs through inclusive classroom methodologies, targeted intervention, enrichment programs and support of children with disabilities
- Reasonable adjustments for students with disability to support them to access and participate in education the same as their peers.
- Involvement in camps, excursions and incursions to engage students and link learning to real-world contexts
- Integration of ICT (information and communication technologies) and assistive technologies in all aspects of the curriculum to enhance student learning and curriculum access.
- Respond to each student’s needs with explicit and targeted teaching
- Engagement is facilitated through the Positive Behaviour for Learning Policy
- Strong interest in learning through technology (BYOD program)
- Encouragement of students to pursue enrichment opportunities in the areas of;
- Daily explicit lessons in PLD (Spelling), Effective teaching of Reading and vocabulary
- Involvement in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program in Year 4
- Administrating the National Assessment of Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests in Years 3 and 5.
- Conduct regular moderation of year level assessment tasks using standards based on criteria identified at year level planning/unpacking days.
- Making judgements of student achievement based on a five-point scale and ACARA achievement standards.

Age-appropriate Pedagogies
- Age-appropriate pedagogies support early years teachers to apply a range and balance of teaching approaches and characteristics of quality teaching in their classroom practice. Co-construction of social, temporal and physical environments that are motivating, engaging, flexible, inviting, challenging and supportive for children.
Third teacher
- Co-constructed learning environment that reflects the learning intentions, students’ goals and voice and criteria for students’ success.
